Tales of the City - The experience of REAL learning

The REAL Programme, a Glasgow-based learning partnership, was designed to increase access to learning opportunities appropriate for the 21st century, aworld of rapid change and complexity requiring new capacities and skills.
The partners in the REAL Programme are: Scottish Enterprise Glasgow, Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Colleges Group, University of Strathclyde,University of Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian University and Learning andTeaching Scotland.
The partership has developed various approaches to stimulate learning in thecity. These include:
A network of 36 REAL Learning Centres based in communitylibraries, learning cafes and cyber cafes, with free open access to allwho live, work and study in the city. More than 125,000 people havenow joined this network.
A REAL for Business programme with 120 businesses engaged inREAL learning at work.
A REAL for Professionals discussion forum in which teachers andmentors can tap into the latest thinking.
21st Century Skills Programme - A range of participatory learningopportunities both online and offline.
The report explores mainly Trialect, a strand of the 21st Century SkillsProgramme, a nine-month programme supporting young Glaswegians to focuson learning through music production, video production and internetbroadcasting through practical engagement led by mentors active in thoseindustries.
The REAL programme has won international acclaim, being widelyrecognised and increasingly cited as a successful example in the developmentof access to lifelong learning. Click below to read the whole report as a PDF
